The goals of the Carter House and Carnton Plantation are to engage visitors of all ages with unique programs designed to foster a better understanding of the Battle of Franklin. The history of this battle is often ignored in textbooks and history books, yet it is crucial to an understanding of the Western Theater of the American Civil War and, ultimately, the outcome of the war. Our education programs, tours, grounds, and battlefield not only detail the Battle of Franklin, but also incorporate the lives of the families of those two homes.
