Homeschool Programs at Belle Meade Plantation

Belle Meade Plantation’s school programs are open to any student group, including homeschool groups. Any homeschooling family, cooperative or association is welcome to book a private tour. Please be aware that we require a 10-paid student minimum for all private tour programs.

Homeschool Day Programs

 
Homeschool Days are a great way to meet other homeschooling families from Middle Tennessee and on these special dates there is no minimum number required to book your tour!
 

 

Participation in each Home school Day is $10 per student. Each family receives one free Parent-Educator admission. Additional Adults are  $15 per person. Younger (non-participating) siblings are welcome to observe at no cost and do not need a ticket. All tickets must be purchased online and are non-refundable and not transferable. You will receive your ticket by email.  Picnic Areas are available. For more information email education@bellemeadeplantation.com.

Life on the Tennessee Frontier

Hear the ring of the blacksmith anvil, smell the cooking fire and taste the fruits of the garden harvest! Explore the ins and outs of frontier life, including music, storytelling, and farm chores. Visit the Harding Cabin and learn more about the Native Americans in this area at the time, as well as the settlers and the enslaved workers brought to Middle Tennessee in the late 1700s/early 1800s. (This program does not include a Mansion tour.)

 

A Century of Christmas

Tour the lavishly decorated mansion and discover how holiday decorations evolved over the century from 1850-1950.  Count the Christmas trees and find out more about how the families who lived in the house at Belle Meade celebrated Christmas.  Discover the changes brought to the house by 20th century wars and emerging technology.  Learn about Christmas 1917 and how World War I impacted the holidays, both here in Nashville and across the country.  Make an ornament to take home to remember your visit.

 

Spring Planting

Winter is ending and it’s time to look ahead to the warmer temperatures! What did the change of seasons mean for planters in the Victorian Era? What plants grow natively in Middle Tennessee and what plants do well in cultivated spaces? Get your hands dirty by making a Dirt Baby to take home, then clean them up with some spring cleaning chores from around the farm! (This program does not include a Mansion tour.)

 

Fun with Historic Foods

Come get a taste of the 1800s!  Discover some fun (and strange) recipes from the past, find out what modern-day ingredients were missing from the Victorian table, and taste-test some historic foods.  Learn to set a formal 19th century table, practice the art of taking tea, and perfect your table manners!  (This program does not include a Mansion tour.)
