El Pueblo is open to kids and teens who will be entering grades 5 through 10 next year. Much like other summer camps, young people participate in all kinds of activities like games, songs, sports, and art. But there's an extra element in that all the staff members speak in Spanish the whole time! Images, gestures, and daily routines support the campers in learning the language and joining in all the camp fun! In the summer camp setting, campers experience what it’s like to really use a foreign language in a meaningful way. Campers with any or no previous experience with Spanish are welcome.
In 2018, El Pueblo will take place at the Oaks Group Camp site at Booker T. Washington State Park. This private part of the park with 12 cabins and a dining hall will be be held exclusively for Language South for the entirety of camp. Campers will also have opportunities to enter the rest of the park with their counselors to hike the trails, use the pool and hang out by Harrison Bay.
Campers will be dropped off on the afternoon of Sunday, June 10, and picked up on the morning of Saturday, June 16 after a program for parents and family.
The total cost of full camp tuition is $995. An early bird discount is offered to those who complete the camper registration and pay their deposit before June 10, 2018. Some scholarships are available and interested campers can inquire about them when they complete their registration.
