BEING HUMAN

A SOCIAL ISSUE PROJECT FOR YOUNG ACTORS AND PLAYWRIGHTS

Street Theatre Company's ClassAct Dramatics new social issue project, BEING HUMAN, is having auditions on Tuesday September 18th for anyone currently enrolled in high school. This is a completely free program for students as well as schools and community centers they will serve. Once cast, students will meet once a week, on Tuesdays from 4-6pm at Street Theatre Company in residence at Holy Trinity Community Church in West Nashville during September – November and January - April. With the guidance of a teaching artist, students will write and work on a piece to present on stage, live in front of peers and schools, that deals with issues and topics that are relevant into today’s culture and young people’s lives such as suicide, racism, gender, and bullying. Each year’s piece will be presented to different area schools and community centers, free of charge to them, and will include a questions-and-answer session with the cast where the audience can have those tough discussions in a safe and encouraging environment. The cast will be trained on how to deal with questions related to their theme.

Being Human weekend writing retreat is September 29 and 30th, Saturday from 9-1pm and Sunday from 1-5pm. Weekly Tuesday class begins October 9th- November 13th from 4-6pm (no class October 16 due to Fall Break) and resumes January 8-February 19th with shows TBD. Only 3 absences are allowed for each cast member.  

For the audition, please prepare a dramatic, contemporary monologue, no longer than 2 minutes, and be prepared for a short interview about why you want to be in this group and what you think you could offer! No pressure - we just want to meet you!
