Family Program: NYE Lucky Black Eyed Pea Maracas

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 12/29/2018
In the South, eating black eyed pea dishes or “Hoppin’ John” on New Year’s Day brings good luck for the coming year. Let’s get hands on and make our own maracas using black eyed peas. Families will explore this culinary tradition, percussion instruments in country music, and country songs about the holiday. Participants will go home with their handmade maraca to shake on New Year’s Eve and a black eyed pea recipe from Kimberley Schlapman of Little Big Town. Ring in 2019 with musical fun and good luck. Ages 4 and up. Presented in support of the exhibit Little Big Town: The Power of Four. Taylor Swift Education Center. Included with museum admission. Free to museum members. Limited seating.
