Contrastive Learning Across Development Task for ages 5-18:

Exclusion Criteria:

You must be between 5 and 18 years old.

You must have normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing.

You must be able to read and follow written instructions.

If you have any previous exposure to the Danish language, then you do not qualify for this study.

Study Format:

You’ll take part in one in-person session, lasting approximately 60 minutes

Compensation:

You’ll receive a $20 Amazon gift card, and convenient, free parking is included.

Study Activity:

In this study, we’re exploring how children and young adults learn new words in a fun, game-like setting. In the game, you’ll hear animal names in a new language (Danish – don’t worry, we’ll teach you!) and tap the matching animal picture on the screen. You’ll practice these word-picture matches, get feedback, and then we’ll test how well you’ve learned the new animals. The whole experience is designed to feel like an adventure, with levels, rewards, and a fun mascot to guide you through each stage.

Feature Mapping Task for ages 10-18:

Exclusion Criteria:

You must be between 10 and 18 years old.

You must have normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing.

If you have been diagnosed with a genetic disorder or neurodevelopmental disorder (e.g., ADHD, autism, etc.) then you do not qualify for this study.

Study Format:

You’ll take part in one in-person session, lasting approximately 45 minutes

Compensation:

You’ll receive a $20 Amazon gift card, and convenient, free parking is included.

Study Activity:

In this study, we’re interested in how people learn and remember new associations between shapes and sounds. You’ll first get a chance to freely explore and decide which sounds you think go with which shapes. Then you’ll be tested by seeing a shape paired with two different sounds — your job is to pick which sound you think is the correct match. You’ll get feedback so you can learn as you go. Later, you’ll pair the sounds and shapes again based on what you have learned.
