Japanese Moon Viewing at Cheekwood

Tsukimi, or moon viewing, is a Japanese tradition which began over a thousand years ago. Tsukimi is typically celebrated by meeting outdoors to enjoy the sight of the brightly shining full moon. The full moon is considered particularly beautiful in autumn, when the air is crisp and the summer heat has subsided. Join us for a moonlit evening in the Cheekwood fall gardens that will feature traditional tea ceremony demonstrations, interactive activities and lantern-lit tours celebrating Japanese art and gardens.

Volunteer Day at Grassmere Historical Garden With the Master Gardners of Davidson County

Come join us on our work days (Monday - Wednesday-Saturday) from 9 to noon. No matter what your interest in gardening, Grassmere offers a wide range of opportunities to learn from the fellow volunteers, who share gardening information and stories with zoo visitors while working. The Grassmere Heirloom Gardens are part of the Grassmere Historic Farm and Historic Croft House, ca. 1810, located at the Nashville Zoo. They are re-creations of the family gardens on the original site behind the Croft House and interpreted to reflect the 1880's. The garden is restored to the 3 distinct tiers observed in old photographs: Flowers, vegetable, and an orchard. There are also 2 herb gardens, antique roses, berries and grape vines. If interested contact Grassmere@mgofdc.org for information on volunteering!
