Mound Bottom Archaeology Hike at Harpeth River State Park

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 11/23/2019
Join park guide and local historian Kevin Markuson on a guided hike to Mound Bottom, a prehistoric Native American mound site know as a civic/ceremonial center. Constructed by people of the Middle Cumberland Mississippian Culture, this site was occupied from 11th through the 14th centuries. Located in a horseshoe bend of the Harpeth River, the site consists of 12 mounds surrounding an open plaza as well as residential areas. We will discuss who these people were, where they came from, how they lived and the reasons for the eventual abandonment of the site. Please wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots and be prepared for a 2 mile hike up and down hills on a woodland trail to the site.
