WXXI and the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County’s Local History & Genealogy Division host a virtual screening of clips from the PBS series "Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr." followed by a panel discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities for African-American families tracing their lineage.

Join WXXI Education and The Local History & Genealogy Division of the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County for a special virtual screening and chat about the Finding Your Roots series with a focus on conducting family history by people of color. Learn about local resources and local stories.

What: Virtual Screening of stories from Finding Your Roots Season 7 followed by a chat with local panelists that are researching their own family histories.

Who Should Attend: Anyone interested in family history, genealogy, and resources to support these activities

When: Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. ET

Panelists include:
• Barb Koehler, Genealogy Specialist at The Local History & Genealogy Division of the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County.
• Cheryl Sampson, whose interest in genealogy was inherited from her mother, who was inspired by the 1977 Roots miniseries to document their family's history.
• Gloria Read, whose interest in genealogy research started when she joined the Kodak Genealogy Club in the 1990’s.
• Jerry and Karen L. Bunton have been preserving family memorabilia and tracing their family roots for decades.
• Bill Castle, a local genealogy enthusiast who makes use of local resources in his family history research.
