Confidence through Creativity

Confidence Through Creativity is a nonprofit theatre program serving elementary and middle school students in Nashville and surrounding communities. We use the performing arts as a powerful tool to build confidence, language development, social-emotional growth, and connection for kids of all backgrounds, especially those who may not otherwise have access to high-quality creative experiences.

At the heart of our mission is this belief: when kids are given the chance to express themselves, take creative risks, and be part of something joyful, they grow in ways that last far beyond the stage.

What We Offer:

• Free and low-cost children’s theatre programming during both the school year and summer
• Full-scale productions where every child, from first-timer to seasoned performer, has a meaningful role and moment to shine
• Weekly rehearsals that blend theatre training, literacy support, and social-emotional learning
• A safe, welcoming space for English language learners, neurodivergent students, and anyone who needs a confidence boost
• Arts access for all, with payment plans, scholarships, and translation support offered as needed
• Partnerships with schools and community organizations to bring theatre opportunities directly to students who might not have them otherwise

• Many of our students are first-time performers, English language learners, or kids facing barriers to participation in extracurricular arts programs.
• Through theatre, students gain language skills, self-expression, teamwork, and a real sense of pride and ownership.
• Every child is treated as an artist, a contributor, and a valued part of the ensemble.

Why Theatre:

Academic & Cognitive Growth

• Students in drama score notably higher on standardized tests: around 65 points higher on the verbal SAT and 35 points higher on the math SAT compared with peers not in drama  .
• Theatre supports reading comprehension, verbal and non-verbal communication, reinforcing academic engagement 

Social-Emotional Development

• Theatre builds confidence, self-esteem, empathy, and resilience through role-play and public performance  .
• Participation improves attendance, motivation, and connection to school—especially among students at risk  .

Cognitive Skills & Creative Thinking

• Acting and improvisation enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability in the moment  
• Drama encourages imagination, divergent thinking, and tolerance for ambiguity  .
• Drama and dramatic play can help children process adversity, build emotional coping skills, and improve self-expression  .

Through theatre, kids gain real opportunities to practice communication, collaboration, empathy, and leadership—all while feeling seen, supported, and capable. Every child who joins our program is invited to take creative risks, build lasting friendships, and feel the joy of making something together.
