Rach Three and the Sibelius Five with the Nashville Symphony

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 05/04/2019
As portrayed in the hit film Shine, Rach Three is a piece so virtuosic, so technically demanding, that it has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging pieces ever written. Macedonian pianist Simon Trpčeski is entirely up to the challenge. In his first-ever Nashville appearance, this celebrated artist will convey all of the musical and emotional energy in Rachmaninoff’s astounding score — originally written for the composer/pianist’s first American tour 90 years ago.

Bookending this masterwork are two resplendent musical evocations of manmade and natural beauty: Michael Gandolfi’s The Garden of Cosmic Speculation is inspired by landscape architect Charles Jencks’ remarkable sculpture garden in Scotland, while Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony evokes the composer’s own rapturous experience witnessing swans in flight, with peals of brass that convey the feeling of awestruck wonder.
