What our organization offers:
Ages for which our activities are most appropriate:
In the Brain Development Lab at Vanderbilt University, most of our work focuses on the development of language and reading, and how this is related to other cognitive processes such as numerical cognition and executive function. Our models of typical brain function are informed by our research in atypical populations such as developmental language disorder, late talkers, deaf and hard of hearing, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. A major focus of our work has been on learning disabilities, including dyslexia and math disability. We are also interested in the common and distinct mechanisms of learning disabilities, speech sound disorder and anxiety disorders. Recent research in our lab is investigating the role of the environment and interventions for improving brain function. Our work has important implications for the identification and treatment.
